THose look more like ABS, and most hardware doesn't carry black PVC, usually either SCH40 (white) or SCH80 (gray).

Kinda right.
People confuse Schedule 40 as always being white PVC.
The Schedule number is a measure of weight and wall thickness (pressure rating).
There are many Schedules for many different flavors of pipe.
For example - Sch. 40 PVC, Sch.40 ABS, Sch. 40 Black Iron, Sch. 40 Cast Iron, Sch. 40 Stainless steel, etc.
And different schedules of each as well - 10,20,40,80,120,etc.

Also, all pipe is sized by it's ID (inside dimension).
What we are looking at here is probably 4" Schedule 40 ABS.
Commonly available at most hardware stores and fine for your tank.
