I have just got a price at long last for a sheet of plate glass ( not tepered ) 96" x 32" x 19mm (3/4") and at £327 i am happy with, i have decided to go with 3/4 glass as i want to go 34" deep in water.

You think 19mm (3/4") will do the job? To remind its going to be ab out 700 Gallon UK, 108 x 60 x 36 or there abouts..

I have worked out the cpmplete weight of the filled tank and at around 4 ton, better get the footings nice and beefy.

Hi all, i have a situation here on this project, now i would like to get my fish from young and see them through life so they would be better in a say 4x2x2 tank, maybe 5x2x2, would look a bit daft in a 700g tank, if i could see them that is LOL. I am talking mainly about a ray or two and aro etc.
But then i want to get on with the big tank.
So should i dspend the cash i have at the minute on the small tank or get stuck into the big one.....decisions decisions.

I have decided to go with glass.... i think.

I have had a price even better now at a 96 x 32 x 3/4 plate for £326. I chose glass as acrylic would be way to expensive and the benefits to me are no better realy.

MMmm just forgot i was going to get some pics of where it is going, bit dark now but if i remeber i will get them tomoz.
I have sort of decide dof the filtration but i will put that in the section needed for the Q.

I too prefer to grow out fish to see there personalities change right before our eyes. Like puppies young fish tend to be very active before they become real monsters imho.

I would save your money and just stick to the Monster plan as you already have a 8x2x2 from my understanding. The more you save the faster this build will be complete.

Subscribed . Oh, and we all love photos so please document this build journal with many, many, many photos.... its a lot more fun to follow and read .

Welcome to MFK! I'm looking forward to this build.
Have you looked into types of glass? For example "starfire" low iron glass? Glass tends to be less clear and more green as it gets thicker. 3/4" might be okay? Might be worth the effort to check out the differences. A tank like that can be kept a lifetime might as well be able to see the fish.

Also, for sure go with the red arro! We can't get them "legally" over hear (US) so I have to drive to my buddies house just to see one

Another thing: We (MFKers) love pictures, even a pile of wood or pictures of saw dust gets us going

No tank as yet, sorry if you misunderstood, i either get the growing on tank at a cost of around £300 then the fish or straight into the monster build with the £300. Just thought it would be daft to get a 6 inch ray and TSN etc in the monster tank, but they would be happy as larry in there.
I myself prefer to see them grow and get to know them.

No worrys on the pics, i love them nyself but been so busy with getting the garden done i forgot to take them, and if its the first ever starting pics of builds i can sort that, you will get to see my con`y where its going that i have just built.

IMHO, I would definitely get a grow out tank. I have a hunch that you will be needing one in the near future. It is always nice to have extra room to quarantine your fish for what ever reason when you have your Monster build going.

Oh and it is always nice to "cry once and buy once..." I would save up and invest in starfire glass since you only do this once and there is only 1 viewing window. You will enjoy this view for years to come.

I have decided to get the 54 x 40 x 26 tank built of have the as the grow on tank as i build the monster tank, i will have a good look around for the best price i can but not the chap that can do it for £220 but this cheap as he we build it with less than 1/2 inch all round inc base
I have a price of £270 but a 10 week wait, I am keen to get it set up.

I will let you know if i can get a better and quicker price on that set up but for the monster build i have pics for now of where it will be going.
Please acuse the naff drawing i have done, not much of a PC wiz kid i am afraid. But you should get the idea.
I need to build the garden wall yet in the next few weeks for the start of the tank room then the door side (front will be done, i will be leaving the roof until tohe tank is built, i think i will be building it the other side of the garden where there is more space once my mate shifts his boat, been there for 8 months now, things you do for mates.

I will doing the rest of the garden inbetween to keep SWMBO happy as she is letting me take out a wall of the cony i have just built her to fit the tank inplace

As you mite see the TV is in the opposite direction, not much of a TV fan, much rahter watch the fish
Having a change of plans of ther filtration system, i am going to size it up to see if i can fit a sump thats level with the tank and have it built in when i build the tank, sorry dont know the name for that type of filter.

A lot to do as you can see but i will update it as i go as you like pics.
