Ok...I need to vent my frustration about my own freaking stupidity.

I had 4 L. striatus in my datnoid grow-out tank. Everything was fine until I added my juruense catfish in there. I woke up and the streamer was missing from his caudal fin...I was PISSED!!:irked:

I scooped them out and tossed them in with my lungfish (thinking they would be food). The next day I see the striatus swimming around and my annectens is BEAT...really bad.

In a fit of rage, I scooped them out and sentenced them to an immediate death-by-Pbass/wyckii/jardini/black aro (they each got one), but my annectens is in rough shape.

What's the best method for healing these guys. Right now I'm just doing frequent water changes and using Melafix/Pimafix to prevent any infection in the wounds. Most of the damage is to the dorsal structure of the entire lungfish...body is in good shape and he is at least still eating.

I am so pissed at myself right now. :wall:

ad salt. If it is eating it will heal.

Happens to all of us, seconds of bad judgement are enough...I had 2 big Temensis cichlas killed by a like sized jar this weekend...seconds of bad judgement is all it takes....

Thanks for the feedback guys...so far so good.

I've just been doing water changes to keep the water quality as high as possible and I'm using salt (scratched the meds). I'll try to get some pics...you should see how bad he looks...

...but on the road to good health.

Melafix, when my lung lost his dorsal/tail fin and back legs to a pissed off severum i dosed him with melafix and now you cant even tell he was hurt

the severum went into the turtle tank and that was the last of him

Lungs are VERY sensitive to meds.....Melafix is the worst of the worst....I, would just not feed him for a week, and I would not even add salt...Light feed after a week, to gage interest, and possibly extend the "starve".....How is his behavior?

I know they are sensitive to meds thats why i used the melafix as opposed to something like myxazin.

In this case it really did the trick and even though he was badly damaged he suffered no change in his behaviour while on the meds

You know, I was questioning adding salt too. You figure salt is only effective towards any sort of parasitic organisims, and even then the true effectiveness is in question by some aquarists.

I wasn't sure if that question was to me or not, but his behavior is "ok"...I say ok because he's fairly lethargic, but does show interest in food, just not nearly as much as he used to.

He is usually good for about a half a dozen jumbo shrimp but now he only takes 2...maybe 3 at a feeding. I pushed feeding to weekly, or when ever he shows interest after 4-5 days, but I'm sticking to the light feeding schedule for now.

"Fingers crossed."
