Using a bit of salt is fine. It'll help prevent secondary fungal infections. I've stopped using mela/pimafix for all of my airbreating species since seeing them experience breathing difficulties on those meds. I now use maroxy since my air breathers seem to tolerate it better. Plus, maroxy is safe enough to use on fish eggs so, it should have less adverse effects on med-sensative individuals.

That's actually what made me stop too...it looked like my annectens was gulping, but he would hold his mouth open for a while and then shoot a jet of water out. That freaked me out a bit, so I did a water change and went the salt route.

Just an update on the lung: He is definitely becoming his old self again. After days of just sitting at the bottom of the tank, lethargic and refusing food, he has been out and about and back to his "knocking" routines.
He ate very aggressively last night and you can see the new growth of caudal fin showing up and the bites don't look as raw as they did.

No kidding...I was absolutely NOT expecting to wake up to that. I figured they were lunch, but all 4 of them just teamed up on him and tore his fins apart.
I finally uploaded the pics. I also included a pic of him waiting to be fed last...what a weirdo.

He's doing MUCH better. I am amazed with how quick he's turning around. He's eating like a PIG and already showing quite a bit of regrowth on the entire dorsal structure.
I'll take some more pics in a few days to show you guys his progression.
