Don't worry about the feeders and parasites deal. As long as there is no visable sign of disease on them feed as you wish.
I say this because all payara in aquaria are wild caught and have a very high likely hood of allready having a parasite load.
So fatten them up for a month or 2 and then treat for parasites and at that point start pretreating the feeders in a seperate tank.
Nice pick up on the hujeta. They make a very good tank mate for scombs. I hate reading the threads that say I picked up this or that cichlid for a tank mate. lol
Yes but only 1 at about 10-11". I have owned it for about 4yrs and got it at 6-7".
They are pretty rare around here as well. And when the vendors get them they ask a fortune for them.
I was up to 4 for a while. But we had a bad ice storm and lost power for 10 days and all but this one died.
I love them, but they are very shy as a single species. They are so much more enjoyable and active when you have multiples.
I have the last one in with 2 scombs but the tat hates them. He patrols the tank and keeps them in 1 corner. Every time they venture out he charges them and snaps his jaws. Its fun to watch but dangerous for the scombs as well.
so tatauaia is more aggressive then a scomb... i gonna love that kind of hydro.. a question: i would like to buy a moonlight lamp for my tank.. do u think scomb could be a nocturnal fish? i see him most aggressive with guppies during the night
