Astronotus sp. are one of the most popular/commonly kept cichlids in the hobby and so far no one has been able to cross breed em with another species, except for other species in the astronotus genus like crassipinnis (sp?) and orbicularis.
That and the fact that your "mom and dad" didn't let you take a picture leads me to believe you don't know for sure what fish you have in that tank.
