I find it hard to believe that dumping bleach in a well that is an aquafer/huge under ground lake
can cure the issue of bacteria or sulfur smell. To me the volume of bleach to actually clear up the
bacteria and circulate it around the aquafer would have to be quite active. I would do more research
into it. Most Aquafers can cover many, many square miles. To me it would be easier to
clean/clear it up would be to filter as it comes up through the plumbing. Do you have a water
softner or a pressure tank which would increase oxygenation?

I originally thought the same thing. It is more than likely in the lines or the pressure tank. Because like you said there is lots of water under there. Everywhere you look online leads back to bleach.

I am confused because to me a well is ground water. Unless they are referring to the cleaning of the well plumbing and pump. As it states the actual ground water cannot be cleaned and a new well drilled or water filtered before use. To drill a well on the same property is just going to tap into the same aquafer/ground water supply.

I grew up on a farm with a big well like you have. I'm 38 years old and my parents have never had to bleach lines or the well itself for any reason. Granted every area is different and water supplies contain different things, but I agree with a lot of what others have said....I'd do some more research.

Florencebigfish is dead on. Stop. Find a water testing company local and have your water tested. It is hard to tell from your signature where you actually are, but I live in the middle of a huge natural gas field and am used to various "smells" from the water. There is NO good reason to chlorinate a well short of a total/fecal coliform problem. Don't guess. Have your well tested. To hell with the fish , your family is drinking this water.
