Welp, I need ID help. Maybe not Ocell after all?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's true. Monos are my cup if tea. No Kelberi or Azuls could compare to the colors of pure monos from Peru.

It's just me I guess.

Little brats are mostly grown up. 11" the both of them!

That hump is gonna deflate once they get a load of the 17" one in the 300! Lots of places to hide and an oscar to distract from fighting, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Fingers crossed for me, folks! Stay tuned for 300 gallon FTSs!

my now mono (bought as an ocell) grew a huge hump at around 13"... i thought his head was going to explode, figured it would deflate when i threw in a mono pair (16 1/2" male and 12" female).. not one bit.. the humped male is the boss...
lol

Aww, Hayn. :) It definitely was the monos from the Chattanooga Aquarium that got me interested in pbass. I think someone on here said those big boys were Guyana monos? It seems very difficult to find high quality monos in the US, which is why I had mostly abandoned the idea after finding out just how glutted the market was with mono/ocell hybrids. Do you know of any reliable suppliers? I'll keep them in mind though for my next trio, although I admit that won't be soon, since a lot of my discretionary money has been gobbled up with home improvements and repairs.

A mini update (sorry no pix) but you're right, doveandgrenade! That lil' dude is NOT intimidated at all, if anything, his hump's gotten larger. He's been doing some pre-spawn behaviors (head shaking, rock cleaning) although the other fish seem confused at the displays (I'm not going to wrestle with them to vent them, so they may not even be female).

they're pretty tough fish even against bigger ones than them.. lol
mine have been clearing spots in the sand to bare bottom and hanging out.
if i see eggs at some point, i'll have to find new homes for my catfish for the time being.. not looking forward to that.

Snooken21 and Jeff brings them in from time to time. Discus original is bringing in bass from peru as well. just keep your eyes open on the vendors sell threads.

But this was my old Peruvian mono back in 08/09. I had to sell her because I moved. Still holds the number one spot out of all the cichla I have ever owned.
