Welp this is a thing, advice please lol

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could start by gettting that temp up so he can survive as well as not spread ich throughout the tank.
I would suggest getting it up to 82-84 at the least!
All of your fish would appreciate that as well. Even the high 70's you have the tank at is too low for all those but the balzani.
It would have been fine in a well airated/filtrated 30g for a few month til it puts on some size.
Good save!

I do have the temp up to 82 for a couple weeks I was just stating what is normal for it but from what I've read high 70s are fine for my fish? Unless I was reading crappy info lol. What would everyone say is the best temp to keep it at?

So, a little update on how this guy is doing, had him for a week in the 70 w/o incident!! Not even a fin nip and has looking great, I'm pretty sure he caught on to pellets because of the balzani, saw him eat a hikari carni sinker earlier!

He doesn't get chased around by anything, I think he punked off everything in the tank so they aren't interested in messing with him, I literally saw him smash my red wolf when it got too close, bloody face went scurrying! (The wolf)

You guys are right about Orinos attitude, they don't take anything from the other fish in the tank! So I went down to the same LFS that usually has Orinos and got another for 8$, just about the same size, assuming its another farmy. This LFS is dirt cheap though, got my WC red wolf there for 25, a red tail cuda that had a piecece of gravel in its stomach and didn't make it for 12$, and my buddy got a WC endli from there for 20$! (baby)

So far they watch each others backs and stay together which I'm enjoying, I've never had a schooling fish before.. makes me want to pickup a Kel or something to go along with em. Will post pics when I'm home from work. The spangles are even coming out on the dorsals, very light coloring when just chillin so I know they're stress level is pretty low. I think I'm going to keep em with the big boys. I'll be sure to update if anything happens, but I feel like my red wolf is too lazy nowadays to catch em. He used to be explosive when he was under 6 months but now he's been commed with some active fish has chilled out considerably

In a 5 gallon?! Is that a typo? Lol

They seem to be doing good still, they're for sure getting more warmed up to pellet but they still spit it out! So far I've fed them worms and some guppys I had from my breeding tank. They strike so fast the guppys have no idea what's hitting them

No typo. A 5gal, tetra 30g filter and a water change every 2 days. It was that or get killed by the flowerhorn and jaguar cichlid. Hes now 10+ " and eats about 20-30 large hikari gold pellets a day :)

Oh wow! Nice! Holy overfiltration batman

That's pretty legit, I guess the whole "as long as the waters really clean and it doesn't physically outgrow the tank, the fish won't stunt" is pretty legit

Its no big deal if its very short term. He just needed to grow Out some. He was only 1" or so when he went into the 5g. I probably should have moved him sooner. But i wanted him to have a bit of size on the others

Hell if it worked it worked, im sure if he realized what was going to happen to him if he went straight in your main tank then hed appreciate it haha

A lil update on these guys, theyre pounding hikari sinkers as they drop but not after they hit the ground, wont take top floating sticks yet which id like to get them on but at least theyre eating pellet!

No problems as far as aggression goes w/ the big guys, if anything the pbass are good for my gymnos personality, they dont let him mess with them at all like the smaller bichirs do sometimes. The red wolf has learned to stay away from em too.

Hey seppii how come your using a divider in the new tank is it to make the fish feel like their in your old tank? Curious if I'm gonna have to do the same when I get my new tank and to the op I used a 40 gallon hex tank with 4 temensis till they hit the 6" mark then I put them in the main tank so you would be ok with a 30 gallon grow out

I went on and put my Azuls andXingu in and my Orino was trying to murder them so I put in a divider til they put on more size. My Xingu knocked the divider down today almost lost my 3 Rio Arauguia Azuls. Had to put them in my 120. Xingu and bigger Azul seem to be ok so I left them in no divider. Orino still chases them but nothing major so should be ok we will see
