i know of one but im not telling, fish might be mine in a few years so i dont want to give away anyones secrets. but he just might see this thread and comment.
I stumbled across this question of sorts in the forum and felt I should say something. If you go the the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) website you can import them (you can search their site for fish imports). They will need proof from the exporting country/company that they are disease free from some type of virus that attacks some carps and other fish. The rub lies in the individual state you live in. I think its safe to say most states consider it illegal to introduce a foreign species for the sake of. Now (I'm guessing mind you) that if you have a rock quarry that has no surfact connection to a stream and thus they couldn't escape you might be able to do that. But before anyone imports these I would highly recommend that you ask yourself the following questions: 1. How much money am I willing to spend on this? The veterniary papers, import permits, etc will add up fast. 2. How much red tape am I willing to put up with just to do this? 3. What are my current state's statutes? 4. Even if you are wanting a large fish for a massive aquarium are you going to have the room for this and handle the food bill to feed it? 5. If you don get them and you don't want them anymore would any local public aquarium take them? 6. Are you willing to put up with the consequences? I'm not here to say what anyone should or should not do. In short, I'm playing devil's advocate to get you to think before you do! Yes they are a facinating species...... I wonder if any government agency has thought about using this species as a biological control for the bighead and silver carp problem. Maybe this post has sturred the pot for some great conversation!
