:D Well... I'm just noticing a trend ... Thats all I'm saying (not ALL people from the UK... just Some )
Im rather proud of my spelling and grammar ha ha...

I would personnally not getg one, i mean they grow huge, arent cheap with the license, and at the end of the day your gonna have a huge pond with just one fish would be worth putting the time and effort into say a nice sized tank or pond with koi and goldfish in which would look nice rather than a dark pond with a dark catfish which you cant see.

Thats what i'd do personally.

i have found some more info ,one guy had one at 4 inches and he feeded it once week and it grew 3ft in four years and it was still 3ft when it was more then 10 years old. I also find that they grow down when they hit 3ft. i also found a another guy who have one it took him two years to grow is 40 iches but there is nohting about how many times he feed it. i also so found out that most wels get to 4ft to 5ft and anything bigger then 6ft are very rare and most of the big records are in the 1800s and in the wild it takes two year to get them about 40cm to 50cm.

Current British Record ... R Garner from Withy Pool, Henlow - 62lb

The Wels catfish was imported to Britain in 1880 but due to our cold weather goes into semi-hibernation throughout our coldest months limiting their size here compared to Europe.

i found some info on these guys and that they get to 36 iches in 3 years by feeding it when actively looking for food. then there grow rate slow down and 4 iches per a year.

Anyone see the River Monsters Wels Catfish episode? Amazing! These things grow massive in the warmer waters in Spain! Looks like they are fairly fearless as he say one near the shore and threw a rock in the water but the wels did not run away or anything!
