Went against my better judgement

Frank, I already have what I presume to be a male in my living room tank. He's about 5-6" I would say and is developing a nuch, is very colorful, and has long trailers with bright orange tips. The picture is just of the new fish which I am hoping to be a female. This was my first time sexing a fish in a fish store based only on what I had read about sexing GT's, so if it does end up being female I'll be happy.

lololol ok I got confused ....I think you're gonna be happy. Slim chance that fish is packin' :P

Here's my suspected male. He lost a huge section of his tail a few months ago to some kind of nasty infection but it's coming back in slowly but surely. He also ate nothing for almost two months but I think hes over the hump at this point! This fish has an incredible personality. The blues on this guy are electric at times when he flashes at his reflection or thinks food is coming he lights up like a neon sign its cool.

I came home to find this little girl on the floor in front of the tank. I feel like an idiot for not putting the lid back on after I added a bunch of floating hornwort I figured she wouldn't feel compelled to jump. SO bummed right now. :(:(:(

ahhhh dude, that's a bummer, I can't say I ever recall seeing a GT jump at all much less out of a tank. I had a female in a tank w/ no top at all except a thick covering of plants for a few months and none of the fish in there jumped out. Maybe there was reason she jumped out??? I know I have had Jags jump for various reasons, but they are notorious for that. I gotta stay on this stuff too, I wake up and check on my fish some days and I notice I might leave a top half-open or so and I feel so lucky seeing the fish all still where they belong.

We are only humans, we're gonna make mistakes, it's what we do. Just try to learn from it and use it to better yourself. Not much else you can do, beating yourself up only helps if it will make you hardwire it into your brain to never do it again, but you can still do that w/out beating yourself up over it.

Nice male buddy what size is he?

Thanks he's prob approaching 6" if I had to guess. Definitely still growing.

I'm honestly guessing the warm weather is why she jumped. Not because the tank was warm but I had my office window open for a few hours the day before and there's about 10 flies in the room that I've been swatting one by one!

I'm totally stumped by the jumping thing dude, I've had my GT pair for years now and I've never ever seen them jump, think my pair have almost stopped growing now not sure but they are large now

OMG, that explains a lot....i can bet 90% chance she was going after flies. Nothing triggers a fish primordial instinct to jump like low-flying prey items over the water, especially bugs. Match the Hatch, they say. Who knows what type of insect and fly larvae are hatching or metamorphing right now in Ecuador and Peru......i bet our GTs know.
