we have a little more variety down my way, but I've seen madtoms come in with feeder guppies at the lfs, and they seem like pretty interesting as aquarium inhabitants

Yeah I bet you do. I love NY's natives but a bit more diversity would be nice, I'm not afraid to admit that. Madtoms are great aquarium fish, a bit secretive but they remain small and most do well in aquaria.

He's a bit washed out because I had him in a bucket for a little while but when I pulled him out of the net he had more typical coloration.

nice looking. i would try it but i believe nets are illegal in VA. maybe i could still catch a few in a minnow trap.

I used to set out a minnow trap in my local small stream and catch a little of everything, try it sometime, a slice or two of bread and you will be suprised what you get.:grinno:

what do you use to catch these? im looking to catch things to feed to my bass small fish and i'd love to get some crayfish...so ya what do you use to ge tthem?

Solo I use a dip net most of the time, if I have a partner a seine is best. If you're collecting strictly for feeders a minnow trap would be the most convenient and will also catch crayfish. Crayfish traps are also a good option.

Where do you guys get your seines? Mine has large spaced netting that the fish swim right through.
