Small Perch means small fillets. Bluegill and Pumpkinseeds max out at 10-16 inches long and a 1/2 lb to 4lbs in weight. Oscars and your sunfish have about the same temperment....as long as they are about the same size and arent about to spawn you should be Ok in a 125 with cover.

hmmm wow, well i may set my 29 up later for one sunfish and get rid of the rest..... jeez didnt think theyed get that big. naw ill keep them in my main tank..

but threw my perch in my landlords pond so now all i have is 1 bluegill 2 sunfish 1 oscar and a firemouth ( gunna get rid of ) and gunna add black skirted tetras as dithers tomm ( school of 12 ) dang now im thinking of setting up my 29 gallon tank!!

sunfish, ment pumpkinseed. anyways gunna thin out my 20 long upstaires and add a few platys ( have 12 to 14 in the 20 long ) gunna add 5 or 6 in the 125 and the 5 black skirted tetras to. getting shrimps tomm for the 20 long.

they will not interbreed so don't worry about it. expect them to take as long as a normal cichlid. if i where you i would eat the perch they taste good.

um yeah they will. i highly doubt they would breed in a tank. but those 2 species do interbreed. that oscar IS way to small and they will kill it. Pumpkinseeds are one of if not the most aggressive sunfish. he will prob attack the bluegill as well. perch are more timid and im sure he will get picked on as well. you do not have to worry about those getting 16". it wont happen. people can spit out max sizes all they want.

I always use the biggest size as a good reference to setting up a tank. Many beginners keeping natives dont know that sunfish are messy eaters and only see Bluegill get 6-8 inches in their local lake. I had two green Sunfish who quickly outgrew a 39 g everyone told would last for years .....so I go by the Max size now in determining tank size. Bluegill can get 14 inches and Pumpkinseeds up to 16 inches that dosent mean that they will (only God knows the true size they will attain not myself or anyone else on this board) but that they can.
