I agree 100% with you on people taking spawning fish, and bait-fish with seine nets....Ive seen it and think its ignorant. I also hope they hold off a year or two on stocking exotic fish to see how many cichlids and P-bass made it before they restock (until they can do some population surveys). I dont know why the state isnt stocking Flagfish to control aglae and plant growth and Florida strains Largemouth bass and Bluegill?! I think the Cichlids will come back also......I just hope not in the numbers they were in (I like them in fish tanks).

I agree the state should stock flagfish and have some type limit as to their collecting and FOR ONCE enforce fishing regulations/license .

I was told by an older guy I know who has lived few miles by Glades his whole life that at one time flag fish were numerous and just as easy to catch since no regulations when it comes to collecting them and they stay in fairly shallow waters as most algae there near rocks, etc .

They were collected in mass with nets ,minnow traps as fishing bait and instead of shiners people would use buckets of flagfish as bait. Either way I don't think at this point other than isolated areas the flagfish can compete with small grass carp which the state protects.
I went herping today and the pygmy suns were fine not affected by cold spell if anything breeding now .
Florida bass and bluegill I do see plenty of.

The Glades restoration project which I was watching today looks nice as lots secluded marsh type areas with no boating, fishing allowed . If Miami doesnt rock mine as thats in the courts now they will have plenty of water to do this project.

Already I saw little turtles ,minnows, etc in the new marshes. I just hope its not all redrained for rock mining.

Oh yes no way the state is going to restock PB this yr its broke and no funds for that as think they buy them from a Brazil PB farm which supplies Dubai and other places.

They will wait a yr as no choice . PB still around but imagine 1/10 if that of last yr.

PB is a money making machine so they will in time restock when they can afford it and that might not be for yrs .If it was a catch/release fish they probably wouldn't need to restock as remaining stock would in few yrs catch up but than again it would as always be caught/kept by many who fish with no licenses and keep even the tiniest LMB.

Yeah, I understand......I go fishing with my father-in-law sometimes and he drives me nuts with the fish he keeps (he dosent even measure them he will keep bass and crappie that are so small you could use them as catfish bait!). I agree on catch and release for PBass.....Im sure you guys could get some records in South Florida; and thanks for the good news on Everglades project , I sure hope they dont let greedy politicians and businessmen in Miami start draining the everglades again (theres plenty of Saltwater treatment options out there and Miami is on the Ocean). Thanks Joe.

Yes if they do not AGAIN drain water from the Glades for rich corporations the restoration is coming out great.

Much of it will be impossible for humans to get to which is nice and one area I saw from a far they are making like little 'islands" so gators can have their own nest areas and teritories plus turtle areas.

If it stays on track and again Miami politicians are not able to have water drained from it as they have in past for their business friends/developers it will be a great asset to Florida and big tourist attraction by airboat .

Yeah ecotourism has really helped the Ozarks, more people are going to areas away from Branson now that they have bulldozed half the hills and turned a picturesque town into a tourist trap; Ive heard of a lot of people now going to our wildlife refuges and parks from Chicago and other areas.
