My great grandma used to have a few with her chickens at one point, atleast untill the raccoons got into the coup and slaughtered them all. But yeah they are very fast lil birds when they need to be, definitely faster then chickens.

Hope to get some of my own at some point but got to work on making a run/coup first.

Sorry to hear about the birds. Yeah they're crazy fast on the ground, dogs struggle to catch up with them!

Yeah she had those birds roughly 20+ years ago. Tried chickens again about 4 years ago but that ended up the same way. Granted if I try this time atleast it wouldn't be out in the country side so definitely less predators. Lol planning on using an old pultry catering truck as the coup for em, I think it would be plenty big enough atleast, roughly 16ft long 6ft wide and 8ft tall.

they are hilarious ? I think I sat for a good half hour yesterday watching mine.
I love their little happy noises they make while they peck around at the ground. And the random chases are very amusing. Haha

That sounds like a good size coop. I like out-of-the-box ideas for coops. Some of them make for a lot safer coops then traditional ones. Your truck idea sounds like it will be good and secure.

I don’t think I’d still have birds if mine weren’t in the bins at night. Our predator population has been booming. I don’t go outside at night without taking my husbands pit with me. She’s the only dog I think would keep me safe from the coyotes. Lol

Ehh coyotes aren't much to fear honestly. I'd be more afraid of a lone coyote, lone wolf, or a mountain lion. Granted with a big cat you won't know it's there untill it's too late. Just don't follow a big cats foot prints or he'll be hunting you form behind while your blindly following his old foot steps.

We get brown eggs delivered by a local lady, who knows my wife.

Lol could be any number of species. I think there are more species that lay brown eggs then there are white eggs layers. Easter eggers are interesting too just on how they can lay multiple eggs of different colors. But yeah, ya won't know what kind of chickens she has untill ya ask.
