That's a pretty general statement.
One of the most knowledgeable (about cichlids) people I know was a petsmart employee for 5 years.
It was a side job for him. His family owned an angelfish hatchery.

I agree that most petsmart employees are generally uneducated about their products, but rallysman is right. I have been lucky to find a few knowledgeable ones at the store by me, but usually they move on to smaller LFS. If they are in the hobby, they know you can't get any good discounts on cool fish at petsmart.

Does Miles still work at PetSmart/PetCo!! That loooooser!! hahaha!! But seriously though, there are a few intelligent people that work at those chain stores. They are few and far between, but they are out there. Next time you should ask them if they can get you in any pop-eye cichlids.

Asking questions at any petstore is a gamble, unless youve spoken with the person a few times and have some confidence in thier knowlege. You should have a general idea of what youre shopping for esp with meds when you walk in.

1 in a million employee, usually chain pet stores are filled with teenagers who dont know the difference between a guppy and a pleco. it is a general statement, but in my experience it is a true generalized statement.

I used to see this all the time. I worked at Petco when I was in college and I was one of the few that knew what they were talking about. It was pretty scary to hear what some of the customer were being told by other employees. We actually had someone return a "Nemo Fish", as they called it, because it died almost immediately...yeah, that happens when you put in FRESH WATER!!! :nilly:

That's trut about the discounts too. They don't care if you have been a long time customer...you still pay the full price. Every once and a while the SKUs would get messed up for some of my regulars...weird. :naughty:

I guess we must have decent chain stores around here. Some of the "mom and pop" shops are worse.
