My mom and pop stores are kick.a.s.s. The people who own and manage them, are way more knowledgeable then the chains in NH atleast. The mom and pop people have just taken their hobby to a new level, while the chains are just working wherever they got hired. I like fishstores i can walk in and see the manager who also is the owner and i can have a one on one conversation with.
In Fact i had a problem with one of my AGA lights and i asked the owner of a place called JAYS Aquatics in NH if he thought he could take a look at it. he said ya so i brought in the light and he allowed me to leave it there for a week so he could look at it. When i went back a week later he said he tried new light bulbs and they didnt work, also he tried a new starter and still no illumination, so then he asked me if it was okay for him to rip a ballast out of one of his own store lights and try and see if that was the problem. So he did, he took an actual light he was using in the store, took out the ballast from that, wired it into my fixture, and what do you know VOILA! The light works better and brighter then ever now, and it was free of charge. So my ballast was burnt out, and Jay hooked me up with a free ballast from one of his own lighting fixtures, and did all the wiring... Now that is service i will go back to over and over agian... thank u mom n pop!
