Actually today it's just the first beam test, not the actual first collision. That's scheduled to happen on October 21, 2008. So thats when the world will end, or 4 years after that lol.

the particle collider thing in Switzerland can create small black holes but these black holes are not strong enough to actually engulf the earth. A black hole sends out halkin radiation in forms of energy waves, a black hole sends out energy faster then it can take it in so that means a small black hole, like the ones the particle collider thing makes, wouldn't be able to grow large enough destroy the earth. It would not last more then a few moments So that means the earth is totally safe from any black hole destruction, atleast to my understanding.
