there is no cat then a goonch!
you realise that this catfish is being blamed for actually grabbing people swimming and doing stuff on the edge of water and eating them!!!!!!
no catfish is greater!!!!!!
bow!!!!! bow to its greatness!!

Most large large catfish and other fish in general that are found in remote areas get blamed for such things. Most of the south american large cats get blamed for the same things as well as was mentioned. As do I think wallago.

Any bagarius is an awesome cat. But I would verify as someone said what you're buying is yarelli as if I really wanted a monster yarelli I would be upset to get another bagarius species.

thanks but actually i am hoping for a smaller species. now i wouldnt be upset if it was a true yarelli but i will take any goonch. but now snookn21 is getting in shortnose gars and i might get one of them. AHHHHHHHH, too many choises.
but i cant wait on pics to see. i either want yarelli or a bagarius bagarius(i think thats the real tiny one)
i love my gars

he is looking into getting other species of goonch!!!!

whats up every1 im new here and i want to buy a goonch catfish. is that smart?
Well it is if you happen to know a little something about the fish and it's requirements and can provide what it requires.

just wandering any one know the care level on the goonch new hear and like big fish!!! also have a farm and lots of land for building ponds for big fish no fish right now but am working on getting long nose gar that are invading rocky river hear in nc

If you know what's up you shouldn't get a b. yarelli, get a b. bagarius instead. Most cannot tell the difference as juvenile fish. I wanted a b. bagarius and had one shipped to me as I didn't have a tank large enough for a yarelli. Once the fish grew past 15" I knew I had a yarelli. After it killed a prized tankmate, even though it was well fed with goldfish feeders, I sold it to a very experienced keeper who grew it to around 2' long. A couple of years later he sold it to another member on this board, also very experienced who grew it out to 48" and had it in a special wide tank of several hundred gallons with chillers and massive filtration, aeration and powerheads. They are a cool water species requiring massive flow and oxygen and must be kept alone, of course. Some people think they'll grow one out and then sell it when it gets too big but finding a home for large fish in general is hard enough anymore but finding one a new home with such special requirements will be almost impossible. These fish grow to several hundred pounds. Yeah, they look cool and all, very impressive shown on T.V. documentaries and such but keep it real and don't buy a fish you can't handle for the long term...
