were do white saum variant green terrors come from?

so what your saying is the gold saum we all know and love cant be found in the wild? , that would mean that the species evolved and is starting to look different. thats wicked. that is what your saying right?...

No, I don't mean that. Gold saum must exist in the wild, except that their location of origin has not been rediscovered. In the old days, once you collected the wild specments, you multipled them by captive breeding if you could, and had no reasons to go back to collect more.

I had F1's and wilds

I am curious to see the grow rates on mine. Everything I've read is inconsistent with each other. Some say slow like Festae and some say fast like Rivulatus.

Did you notice a growth rate difference between F0 and F1?

I didn't notice any difference really. The big male was wild but I think he grew faster because of his dominance. I did notice the F1's were less suceptable to IP's (as to be expected), and this gave them an edge in growth rate I guess. They also weren't as shy as the wilds (again, expected) and were much faster to take food, pellets mainly.

Mine seemed to grow in bursts so I ran with that and fed heavily and infrequently.

Are yours F1? I would say they will be up to size in no time. Clean water as always is key (as you'll well know).

I couldn't say whether exact collection spot of the original gold saum export might be unknown, but the range where they may presently be found is known and described by various sources-- for example here-- and I see wild gold saums for sale from time to time.

094.JPGHe has only grown approximately one half to three quarters of an inch in 6 months. He has never been a real good eater since I got him but he has never appeared sickly or anything like that and all other fish seem to be out growing him big time.
Just wondering, what rate is that? (Approximately, of course) ;-)

Yes, mine are F1's. Can't wait for them to beef up. ;-)

Thats very slow growth for any cichlid. It could be stunted?

My speculation is that there is not as much demand for wild gold saums as white saums (both species) because gold saum is so well established in the aquarium trade that there is nothing new to add. In fact, line bred strain is more colorful, less aggressive and easier to keep than wild fish.
