you haven't said if the tank is near a window. If the water is green you probably have free floating algae. If you're getting a reading on ammonia you might have somethign wrong with your filters BB.
you need a more permanent solution. i suggest moving the tank to an area thats not so exposed to sun light. Or just keep the curtains closed/down. You could also install a uv sterilizer.

UV sterilizer would be the end all solution.
get that and you will be fine. for the rest of the time you have that tank.(provided that you take care of the sterilizer)
im back and im buying this one: The Turbo-Twist 9W UV Sterilizer will that work ok! if not i'll go bigger it says for up to 125gal tanks so ya im pickin it up when i get paid THX for all the help & info.
turn the tank lights off for 3-5 days and keep doing water changes.i had exactly the same thing happen to my tank.this is what i did to get rid of the green algae.
I would do a 50% or more water change. You defiantly need more biological filtration; the way I figure it is 8 to 10 gallons per minute of filtration for every gallon of aquarium space. All you have to do to figure this out is to take the amount of water your filter can move (ex 350 gpm) a then dived that by the volume of your tank.
