Had two, one grew to 9" before I moved and it had died.
They need a nice amount of space. For a small one (so like 2"-5.5") no less than 75 gallons, with lots of PVC pipe type of hiding spots. I fed alot of types of food, but it loved vibra bites and pellets with high protein. Make sure their tank mates play nice as they can take a beating yes but heal quite poorly ime. Kinda skittish if they're not happy campers. They are peaceful, and really beautiful. For my 9" he was in a custom acrylic that was 6' x 3' x 3' tall and used alot of the footprint. I am sure you could get away with smaller, but make sure the mac is happy first. They won't bother anything bigger than it and have rather tiny mouths for a catfish. good luck
