Is there any realistic chance of doing a similar looking setup with a Buttrikoferi?

You could probably with the above water plants. I used cyperus and black leaf taro. The cyperus would probably hold up no problem. The tarp may or may not, but it doesnt need to be submerged, just the roots need to stay wet.

I was wondering if you used hardy plants or plants that are "unpalatable" and you employed one of two or a combination of methods could it not work with submerged plants.
1. set the plants up a few months before adding the fish and let them settle and establish properly.
2. Make a plastic grate or stainless steel cage around the plant until it has established and the fish is used to it being there.
