ok after around 2-3 years of trying to sort out an east coast visit to the states i've gave up as i can't sort a time with my family and decided to do the west coast again.

we've booked for the last week september and first week in october landing in LA first and then leaving from San Fran 2 weeks later.

We'll spend a few days in LA with my cousin and maybe doing a few visits but don't know where.

so first i need to know what to do in LA, the last time i did the studio tours and universal, the peterson museum and took in a hockey game at the staples. so what do you recommend?

After LA we're hiring a car and driving to San Fran, i need ideas on which way to go and what to visit on each route you can take.

We will spend most of our time in San Fran and have a few things planned like visiting santa cruz, the winchester mansion, alcatraz, monterey (aquarium) but what else is there.

so i need what to do in LA, San Francisco and what to do on the trip in-between.

thanks in advance.

There's always Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags, Sea World, Aquarium of the Pacific(Long Beach aquarium) all within driving distance from LA. And in San Fran you could go to Aquarium of the Bay. Also on the way to San Fran you could stop by Pismo Beach and get clam chowder

in the SF area theres the monterey aquarium, fishermans wharf, Alcatraz, wine county in Napa/Sonoma, 17-mile drive in monterey, Point Lobos, pebble beach, several good fish stores :), japanese friendship gardens in san jose with massive koi ponds, marine world theme park in vallejo, chinatown etc etc

Yosemite national park in central CA,

1st of all Monterey Aquarium is in MONTEREY, not SF!! Monterey is about 110 miles South of San Francisco. If you have the time it is worth checking out, but there is not a lot of other things to see in Monterey beside the aquarium. Steinhart Aquarium in Golden Gate Park, which is in SF, recently finished a major renovation and is a must see. Pier 39 and Fishermans Warf are OK if you are in the SF area, but are a bit touristy. You can also take a short(?) drive north and see the California Redwoods which are the largest trees on the planet and very beautiful!

My 2 cents!

Have fun!!!!
