Wet Carpet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just to update, i reluctantly cut open underneath the sliding closet doors and pried up as much of the carpet i could. I also pulled the carpet up with wire/screws so a fan can circulate underneath it. Hopefully this will help.

Ok from a remodelers perspective you probably dont need to worry about mold if you keep the airflow really good. Older houses will def not have any sealant on the sheathing so you might be careful. If you open the windows all the way and keep fans on the spot you shuold be alright. You do not necessarily have to get under the carpet.

oh, and clean it with a carpet cleaner since your fish tank water obv has more bacteria in it than tap. I am not saying like bleach or anything just a normal carpet cleaner.

thanks for the advice,
i'm letting it dry out for the night. i'm going to go rent a carpet shampoo/vac tomorrow just to make sure.
thanks again.

ill speak from a CARPET INSTALLERS standpoint.

carpet and the padding are a breeding ground for mold. IDC what people say. ive done some rip-ups that the smell of mold and mildew was literally sickening, making is near impossible to breath. the padding underneath the carpet acts like a giant sponge, taking forever to dry out, and giving all that nasty crap an easy living environment.

you most definatly needed to get air circulation under the carpet, trust me.

Try to get that dried and cleaned as soon as you can! I had my tank overflow once and it stained the carpet and smelled for weeks! Left a huge stained, but I was remodeling the house anyways so I had the carpet removed.
