Everything I see of yours is beautiful, from the picture of your led lit tank, to the planted tanks you have, right down to the plumbing and all your tools hanging in there places. I have to give it to you, you are great with the details, and thats the most important thing.
thanks!

Thanks for the help so far guys. I would appreciate more pics too if possible. If i just did a sump for ceramic media, would i still need an overflow box? And would the hosing be the same? Hey J, thanks for the pics. I still dont understand the hosing underneath your tank? Was your tank drilled?
yes, you would still need an overflow box to get the water out of the tank and into the sump. my setup is a little unique. all the extra hosing you see if for a co2 reactor since this is a planted tank. and yes, my tank is drilled. check my recent threads if you want to see more pics of the planted tank.

everything would be the same as a regular wet/dry, only difference is you dont need to go through all the trouble of adding dividers and baffles in the sump to 'drip' water over your media (like bio balls)

Hey J checked out your plant tank threat and amazing as usual. On a side note, what is the purpose of a drip system and would i need one?

thanks! a drip system is a life saver! it replaces water changes. it's great if you dont want to do all this manual labor. it also helps reduce nitrate levels. my 400g cichla tank always had super high nitrates, even with 75% water changes every week. im talking 80ppm+! after adding the drip system (dripping about 50g a day), my nitrate levels never went over 10-15ppm

i'd say a 75g tank would be more than enough. i usually go for 20-30% of the tanks volume

Ok that sucks....cause i would have no place to place to put a 75 gallon tank..lol.

This is a detailed plan with diagrams for a baffle sump filter:

This was a cheap add-on when stocking got heavy:

And if you go an overflow and hate noise (like I do) then you might want one of these too:

Hope this helps.

is the silencer hole the same hole used to prevent disaster if a power outage occurs or is the hole on the opposite side?
