*WET/DRY FOR 600G IDEA*

Thanks.

I like the idea of having viewing panes, although they really dont serve a purpose they're just nice to have... I guess I can use these to keep an eye on how dirty my media is.

Are there horizonal baffles in your first chambers on the end? There's no need for that. It will just make it impossible to clean any crap that gets caught under them. Keep them open and use some long filter socks for all the mechanical you'll need.

Bio balls are meant to be dry. Generally, ponds don't have wet dries I would think because you wouldn't normally be able to overflow into a pond (putting wet dry under it) and why lose the flow of the pump to pump up really high?I guess. I think your idea will work well. Just makes ure you put a good drip plate on top of the bio balls.

The filter floss compartments are going to be made up of something stackable, like a canister filter or Possibly removable baffles? Definitely not permanent baffles.

I will be using plastic peg-board for the drip plate like I have on my other w/ds.

I still think just one long sock would do better than those trays on the sides.

I have two 3600 gph pumps on my 450 (8x4x2) with 6 returns. I ended up having to put a 950gph powerhead to help get the partacles stirred up enough to get most into the overflows.

Better as far as ease in maintaining or in overall filtration?

Thats 7,200gph on a 470g = 15X Turnover... that should be MORE than enough... Most people try to shoot for 10X and thats excellent. I've also heard of people doing great with as little as 3X turnover.

There will undoubtedly be deadspots, but a water change + gravel syphon is a lot cheaper than adding more turnover.

you will find filter socks will filter much better and be much easyer to maintain ease of maintanece is areally important in filter desgn if its difficult to maintain you will soon give up doing it

Well thats something I'll definitely consider when it finally comes down to putting this thing together. I just imagined it would be the same as cleaning out a canister filter.

Pull out trays> rinse media in tank water> replace trays = pretty easy.

nice i think it looks fine, but man that will be a hell of a lot of bio balls.
