I have a pro-clear aquatics wet/dry rated for a 300 gallon aquarium with a gen-x 1200gph pump with a backflow stopper, the only problem is that when my power goes out the overflows take in to much and the sump overflows and drains the tank until the water level drops below the overflow teeth. How can i stop this from happening.

either raise the level of your overflow or lower the constant waterline in your sump.

You must have too much water in the sump. Try this:
Take some water out and shut off the pump. (hopefilly it won't make a mess)
Let the water drain from the overflows to the sump.
If you took out enough water, the sump won't overflow.
Fill the sump up until it is about 1 inch from the top.
Turn the pump back on.
Once everything is flowing, draw a line on the front of the sump (sharpie)showing the waterline. This is the max water level you should have with the pump on. As long as you don't go over that line, it won't overflow.

thanks for the quick response, unfortunately i have tried that and the water line is too low and the pump sucks in lots of air

Check valve

what type of over flow? you just need a syphon break on the return spout.. what is connected to the end of the tube that distributes the water back into the tank.. pm me ill help you out
