actually thats a whole separate monster. the diagram you posted is for a "bottom siphon" style overflow. these oveflows are a lot slower than the standard PVC overflow, so you will either need a smaller pump, a larger pipe, or multiple overflows.

Got a quick Q... I want another overflow in the future and this looks super easy and inexpensive. My current overflow is drilled out at the top. I can raise or lower the bulkhead depending on what level I want my tank. I would need both the drilled overflow and this new DIY overflow to both be adjustable so I can make sure they get equal flow to the twin wet/drys. Is it possible to make this design adjustable?

I think I understand what your saying but it's very difficult to get the overflows at exactly the right hight so they always flow at the exact same rate and it's not necessary if you connect your sumps. Quick fix is to connect your sumps with some plumbing below the water line, that way your sumps will always have the same amount of water in them. Then if one pump out preforms the other or one overflow is just a little lower than the other everything levels out in the sump.

I attached some pics of my duel sump/over flow system. I have two 55 gallon sumps and two separate overflows and I connected these with a 1" flexible hose. Now I don't have issues with one sump filling faster than the other.

Thanks for the info, but both overflows will go into same 55g sump (with twin wet/drys on each side of sump). Only going to use one return pump in the middle. I want both wet/drys to get same amount of water going into them.

Like this... current wet/dry on right is my drilled overflow and want to add a DIY overflow to run second identical wet/dry. Just want same amount of flow in each using two different overflow styles. Can be done if this DIY overflow could be adjustable I think.

Make sure you account for the extra water that will siphon to your sump when the power goes out with the second overflow.

If both overflows are equal in height, there should not be more water in my sump. Once it hits my waterline, they'll both stop. Sump is only about half full anyways, lotsa room.

Is it possible to run two pumps instead of using an overflow(cause i wouldnt want to drill my tank), like buy two of the same pumps and have one pumping water out of your tank and one that pumps it back?

ok, i came up with a good question lol. Does it matter how much water your pump pumps out if you use the same size tubing for the removal of water and pumping it back in?
