Why do you turn your tanks off?

Because I still haven't found a pump that is sized right and won't heat my water. By turning it off twice a day, I give it a chance to cool down and I don't have an ammonia spike. I had been running it only at night but I found my cichlid tank spikes during the day. I had better temp control by running it at night but ammonia spikes just won't do.

Oh, I am considering adding these eight breeder tanks to the system. During the summer the water will approach 90F degrees. That may cause brain damage and retardation in my fish. I think I am going to have to dig a giant hole for one of those coil coolers.:irked:

NOPE! It ain't a CHOMPERS original. It is a CHOMPERS original rip-off. I saw it somewhere else in gigantic form. I just shrank it down to realistic size. They make great temporary overflows. I syphon water out of my top tank and into my nursery/grow-out tank. That then overflows into my bottom tank. No extra pumps involved.

By the way, I broke down and bought the tooling to drill my tanks. The hole saws are coming in from Hong Kong, and I have 21 bulkhead fittings coming in from somewhere in Idaho.
