Thank you for your responce. I actually started building the overflow this weekend and went with 1.25" Overflow for it. I also bought a piece of acrylic that I will drill holes into for the drip tray. I will be buying the mag 5 pump for this sometime in the near future.

What do you think of the filter design?

That is exactly how I design wet/dry filters. Simple, effective and easy to maintain. I would give you an A+

Protip: Make sure that you drill the drip tray holes smaller than you think they should be, and run some tests and keep upping the hole size until you get it right. Drilling too small is fixable, drilling too large means you gotta buy more acrylic.

What size hole would you recommend starting with? I was going to start with 3/16".

That should be fine, but honestly (because I hate making mistakes that cost money), I would probably start with a 1/8".
