wet dry sump gph and tank size ques...please help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You'll get plenty of oxygenation via the water trickling over the scrubbies, so you won't have to worry about splashing to enhance gas exchange, so I'd just plumb a hose down below the water level to prevent the returning water from making noise and reduce evaporation.

those are some serious fish you're planning on keeping, you're definitely going to want higher turnover to help keep debris out of the pond.

Have you thought about a drip system instead of or in addition to filtration? There's been a lot of success with that here lately.

"Make sure the pond has enough water space to take how much water you have in the filter."

Come on Fat T...:banhim:

If you start the pump with the pond full you cannot overflow it if it stops.:p:p:p:p

Welcome to MFK...

Minimum of 3,000gph for that pond. Maybe a little higher if you can.

thanks guys for the info...kallmond-your saying that the return pipe to the pond should be at or below water level correct? and I have heard about a drip system, but never researched or know how it works...i have an idea but...

and what is everyones thougt on which pump I should get:

Danner Mag Drive pump.....or Pondmaster pump???

Hey everyone attached is my 75 gallon sump idea-let me know what you think-if this is good-or to make changes anywhere because this will the first tank I'm doing this to...I made a chamber in tank to right, just incase of power loss, the tank should maintain a certain level of water in it for bb...the only thing is, I dont know how high the water level will be and whatnot coming from an 1800 gph pump (using a fx5 as well)

enjoy the crappy mspaint pic
lol

anyone???

and I have a couple of questions...

first, do the scrubbies have to be fully submerged in water to keep the bb alive (sounds like a dumb question-i'm assuming the answer is yes..but enlighten me)

so I calculated the pond to be very close to 480 gallons...
with that in mind (with a fx5 as well) if I'm getting a 1200 gph pump..what size bulkhead should I use from the sump? a 1in or a 2in?

thanks guys

if i remember correctly it is better if most of the bio media is not submerged but has a steady flow of water going over it...

ok, so not submerged...i was on the fence about that one, because in some pics that I see of peoples setups, it doesn't look as though they are; I was wondering how the bb stays alive-I guess that the scrubbies are just moist enough that it works...
