wet/dry sump size ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The way I understand it is the bigger the better. Whatever fits under the tank. I have the one from All-Glass. It isn't all it is cracked up to be. it is fairly noisy, the two lids are warping, and you can't have any sags in the drain hoses. In addition the prefilter is to restrictive and the media trayt overflows unless you cut the flow way back, the pump resevoir has a bubble filter before it with an additional divider, high evap. rate. I have to add water to the sump every couple days. I worry about the pumps running dry.

I think that the size of sump you need depends largely on what bio media you use. The higher surface area the media has, the smaller the sump needs to be.

If you're gonna use pot scrubbers and bio balls you will need a bigger sump than if you use Eheim Substrate or Bacteria House, however, these do cost a lot more.
