Hi,
I have just made a wet dry sump and by god isn't it noisy.
The pump makes a vibrating noise the water going in sounds like a toilet constatntly refilling. Is there anyway to make them less noisy .
I'm planning on making a cupboard around it, will stuffing the cupboard walls with rockwell make much different.( I am a chippie so materials are easy to get my hands on)
I never knew how much noise they make ,never read anywhere on here about that or is it not a common problem.
Anyway any info about supressing the noise would be great
Cheers
Joe

can you snap some pics of what kind of setup you have? That will help us identify the source of the noise and propose a possible solution.

putting a heavy glass or acrylic lid can also help drown out some of the noise

if it sounds like a toilet refilling..it probly means something is dripping try to stop it with some sponges to reduce the noise

my sump is beneath my tank in a cabinet/stand and it is barely niticble when right up next to the tank. I'd say your biggiest issue is that it's out in the open and you're probablly going to have to deal with noise until you can put in in something.

pump vibrations are easily delath with however by first makign sure it's not in direct contact with any of the sides. my pump has a suction cup mount that keeps it pretty quiet and I have it 3 inches from any side.

however based on your setup your pump looks to be pretty cloase to the walls in that case I recomend foam aorund it to dampen the vibrations.

Very, um, cost effective set up.:grinno:
Love it. The drawer media tower is by far the best bang for buck(pound).
Do you have a spray bar, dispersing your water into the sump?
When I had an open pipe, dumping into my sump it made a heck of a racket. Added a spray bar, covered with quilt batting softened the noise.
