It was a cheap set-up , lack of funds.
I have managed to make it a bit quieter. I've used a bigger container (double the size) this has helped with the vibrating pump.
As for the noisy pipe work, i have put a 45 degree join by the sython stop. So now instead of a long drop down all the water now runs on a 45 degree angle to the sump.
I like the idea about adding a spray bar, it is a bit noisy there now and it might help distribute the water better over the wet/dry compartment. At the moment all the water is running through the centre of it leaving the outside media barely wet.
