Wet/Dry VS. Canister

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah for now ima go with the Wet/Dry Sump, if i find a good deal ima throw a canister on there too :P

Big surprise…

Your LFS is trying to make a boat payment off of you.

Aqua lifter pumps shouldn`t set you back more than $25, tops.

Check some online vendors and you can see what I mean.

A LFS should make a profit,, but keep it reasonable.

there are a lot of advantages with sumps. hiding the equiptment, more water volumn, easier water changes, etc. can also lead to a large spill and they are not as quiet as cannisters. I have an ehiem and a xp3 on my 120 gal. and give one filter a good cleaning and still have one running. either way has pros and cons. if I already had a sump I would probably have just kept it.

yeah basically the fact that i already have it is the biggest reason im using it, i looked in to the aqualifter and the LFS i actually like has the little aqua pumps for like 18 bucks so i think ima pick one up for peace of minds sake :P - thanks for the input everybody

One reason that could be causing the bubbles is your flow rate. Its pretty obvious that you dont want too much, or your u tube cant handle it, but having too little will cause small air bubbles to collect.

Unless it's elevated to the same surface level, the sump will require lifting of water against gravity= more electricity.
Canister doesn't need to lift as it's a sealed loop, minus a little fall at the return.
The flexibility, size and simplicity of a sump I'd love, but don't want to pony up the electricity costs. Maybe when I go solar... dream dream...
