"Wet Pet" for 33 US Gallon Tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really the intelligence and size means more to me than aggression or colour.

Would Sajica cichlids benefit from dither fish, and if so, is there any anyone could recommend? I love how everyone's suggestions have got me off of having a single fish alone in a tank, by the way! :p

Nothing wrong with a single male bulky Sajica!
And sure, if he will allow them to share the tank. It’s a gamble, I’d start with something cheap like swordtails

I'd say you should be okay with some dithers in there, you could do some of the larger tetras like the skirts, or some American flag fish, swordtails, lots of options. I'd put like 5 in the tank.

Okay guys, after reading up on some of the suggestions I think I'll go with a male Sajica with maybe some dither fish (if my tiny tank allows it!) I love the nuchal humps they can get and they seem intelligent according to various owners.
Jewel Cichlids seem great too, but I doubt my tank would support one of each and hear Jewels can get super territorial.
good choice

Just got back from my LFS - They have a few Juvenile Sajica available! Will be picking one up later in the week, hopefully there will be a discernible male. They really didn't have alot in the way of smaller dither fish but they also stocked a few Geophagus red heads, not sure if both a Sajica and a Geophagus would fit in the 33 gallon but it'd be perfect if they did. Any suggestions?

Geophagus for my experience, tend to do better when their in groups of their own species. So a solo Geo probably wouldn’t get the colors and behavior you’d get in a group. That alone for me, is reason enough to not try it.

I never asked, how old is this tank? Are you cycled? What’s the scape like? Post a picture of the tank. So we can see the layout
