My angelfish handfeeds jumps out of the water and chases my finger and I only kept him for 3 weeks so far

I second the SB FH. You won't likely find more of a wet pet. Acaras or keyhole cichlids could be another fit. I also like a firemouth in that tank. There are some good noncichlid options. If you don't mind going brackish figure 8 or green spotted puffers are a good fit. For an oddball it is tough to beat leopard ctenopomas. They take a little while to settle in, but they become pretty interactive once they settle in.

I think the best success from a wet pet standpoint comes with growing out 5 or so fry of the species of your choice. From there add frequent very small feedings. This generates competition and anticipation in the fish and promotes a vigorous response to your presence. As you gradually reduce the group through your selection process you are able to identify the fish that has the most appealing “begging” behavior. The frequent interaction is critical and starting in a group is also pretty critical. Even reclusive ambush predators can be trained to be quite interactive through peer pressure and competition. Big male Dempsey a carpintis or with a good tank layout that makes the fish feel secure a salvini are all nice upper end medium size cichlids that can impress even the most jaded of your friends when they jump for earthworms etc.
