I saw 2" clown loaches for $12 each (cheap for my area) and I figured I should buy about 7 while they last. I'll be putting them in my 90 but I dont yet have a substrate. I want to put sand in there but dont know what kind to get.

I noticed some types of sand turn brown and mud like when they're wet and other types don't. Whats the cheapest sand I can get that will hold its golden/whiteish color even when wet. I saw bags in my lfs labeled "live sand" probably not for freshwater though right? and its way out of my price range at $25 per 15lbs. If I could get sand for the whole tank for under $40 that would be great.

Pool filter sand.

cool thanks. Now if I can just find a supplier in Edmonton Alberta I'll be all set.

Definitely hit up the Pool Filter Sand. You can get 50lbs for about $15. Don't get the Live Sand from the lfs. That's meant for Saltwater Tanks and you'll just be wasting your money.

or just go barebottom...

Still looking... Its like finding a needle in a hay stack. :irked:

I found suppliers in north Edmonton but that's like an hour and a half drive (one way) there's gotta be a supplier in the south end. If anyone happens to find one I'd be very grateful. I intended to go pick some up hours ago but I cant find a reasonably close supplier.

Look in your phone book under "pool supplies"....Can't go wrong there.

12 bucks for 2 inchers. Heck Petsmart around here sells at least 3 maybe even 3.5 inchers for 8.99 Well good luck with the sand, I hear pool shops carry the sand but I really don't know if canada even has pools. :)

You have a Wal-Mart? I saw a post about Crayola colored sand (if you're into that...) & I'm sure they have "Play Sand", which a ton of people use. Not as clean as pool filter sand, though... My loaches love the Tahitian Moon black sand from the fish store. It comes in a really nice white, too. Made by CaribSea.
