wetpet: oscar vs CA vs female FH?

I love the look of pikes , but want to mainly feed pellets. do pikes notice what's outside the tank?




@Luke & Canadian: I been wondering if females act anything like males?


they're coldwater sunfish, or bass?


I think H carpinte are more glass bangers than anything, but that sounds nice right now. Lol.
I suspect our O needs some kind of tankmate(s) to build confidence and learn that pellets are delicious. I can't trade in my husband who created the monster. Llll.
O is spoiled on earthworms.
I moved him to a tankful of geo fry (for eating) and OMG, he acts like it's a swarm of wasps. you'd think he has never eaten any before. hides from his other fave--->earthworms. sulks in one corner. his familiar driftwood & fake plant is there.. lays flat on his side. swims cautiously, a little bit.
might get even worse if I tried rainbow dithers for him. online $$ just for a gamble. ?
I think "he" is a girl.
and bi-polar. In past, relentlessly chased everything I put him with, even bigger fish.
my husband said "he thinks that many geo fry will gang up & beat him to death", whereas just a few at a time were yummy. I was obviously WRONG in thinking that they would make him feel better about a diff tank.



I've never had any. pray tell, the behaviors you like.?

I think its moreso the specific fish rather then it being male or female (especially with Flower horns)

We have a female who is the spawn of satan. I have seen male FHs ram glass wanting to eat a finger.

I have yet to find a tank mate for the FH, longest lasting tank mate was a pleco. I found him with half of his nose bit off so i moved him. Hes great now.

That being said. The guy i got my arowana from had a 11" king kumfa flowerhorn that was perfectly fine with the arowana and pleco.

yeah, I know it depends on the individual, but I just don't know if females are "less commonly" glass bangers & people watchers.

Fh all the way...as for females mine just knocked my lid partially off yesterday because I walked by and didn't feed her lol... She's only 4-5" ..... I've kept monster fish 18-30" for years now and recently been into smaller specimen and fh are def an overlooked mini monster. I absolutely love mine and have been searching for more ever since. Super personable and colorful.

To tell you the truth it just sounds like your oscar is sulking from the tank switch. They are known to be big babies and will sulk for many things. I hope you aren't going to get rid of it.

Here is a suggestion from me as a great wet pet. The gentle giant aka the severum. Mine watches everything in the room even the tv. He hides behind plants peeking around the side when shark planet is on. Watches my video gaming. I've been killed on call of duty multiple times because he splashes me with water when he wants attention. He follows me around the tank, eats from my hand above the water and submerged, almost let's me pet him, does his feed me dance the second I wake up, gets all up on me when I do water changes, gets all excited every time I come in the room but hides and hesitantly comes out when it isn't a member of my household, stares at my crested gecko(has a viv right next to the severum tank) that stares back at him. He lives with 12 guppies that play all day in his face and never does anything to them. He has eaten one in the past but I don't think he liked the taste of them or he just didn't like odd numbers, too bad, your name is Seven the severum. He pretty much acts like a normal oscar without the sulking and high predatory behaviour and is way prettier(in my opinion).

oh, I know the O is sulking about changing tanks. We're well acquainted with The Sulk. IF he goes it won't be due to one episode, more about the big picture. he does sulk easily & really may not be the best candidate for living all alone. that's the impression I'm getting over the long haul.
I'm not pulling a trigger immediately, kind of brainstorming.

i currently have three flowerhorns with three completely different personalities. I really enjoy them, but if I were looking for a fish that interacts with humans like crazy, I would suggest a red isletas. I absolutely love mine, though he is in a community tank that's 6 feet long. I am sure that other owners of them would agree with their great personalities. I have a buddy who has a male that loves to get spun around in circles my his nochal hump.... he actually swims to my buddy's hand and pushes on it with the hump to play with him....

cichlids are cichlids, I really enjoyed my FH but my oscars were exactly the same. They are all large aggressive fish that will beg for food. If you really wanted something for the personality you would get a puffer or one of the many other oddball fish with better personalities than cichlids.

But if you are set on a cichlid, they all have pretty much the same owner response and interactivity, some being more or less aggressive but this also is the individual fish,
So really what you have to decide is, if you want a cichlid.... which kind? cause the only difference is appearance.
