I had the same thing happen to my 8 incher... luckily i was sitting in the room when he smashed through the lid and out. Thinking to get rid of him now.......... but not cuz of that

Had an 7" arowana jump out a hole less than 1 inch. Broke my heart. Sorry for your loss.

Live and learn.
Sorry about your loss.
I guess i'll share my fish jumping story too.

My Aro jumped out of a 1'' gap behind my tank.
I never would have found him, but my cat "let me know".
I rescued him just in time. My cat saved my Aro and I still have him.

The End.

I had RTBS jump out. CRISPY...

And a coelacanth jump out of my15 high....

My 8" Oscar jumped tank on Thursday - slipped out of a 2" gap in the glass lid that I had failed to get recut after breaking it a few months back. Didn't find him until Friday morning shrivelled up on the living room floor. It was one of those "what's that" moments when I saw the lump sitting there. Didn't even clue in until I was right overtop of him.

Lesson learned - glass was recut and placed over tank by Sunday

my more than 24" silver aro jump from our pond with 1foot clearance. Saw the aro looking all beaten up with almost all of its scales off in our garden. my pond is 1000g but only 1 1/2 feet deep 2/3 of its area.

he was such a good guy never tried jumping off from his former 75g habitat.

lessons learned. make the clearance 2 1/2 feet next time.

A while back I had a 3" RTBS dissapear....About a month later I went to clean the HOB filter and there he was fatter than ever. I took him out and returned him to the tank, a week later...In the HOB....We battled for about three months with it going in and out of the HOB....I bought a canister.

I have lost a least 4 Common Plecos over the years by jumping out of the back of the tanks. If they get chased by other fish, they will go straight up and out. How does one cover the back of the tank if you are using HOB filters??? And even the small plecos will get out of the small openings. I even had a Iradecent Shark jump out while I was feeding and I was able to catch it before hitting the floor.

i found my tank missing a oscar and i found him under my stand  theres no openings in the lid  except the timy little hole for the heater!
