wha are my jack dempsey's doing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hard to tell exactly what's going on because there's a lot of activity in the video lol but that male is clearly showing off, this is the way they behave before breeding... but the fact that he's chasing the females away makes me think he has reached sexual maturity and is just being territorial.

What size is that tank? I see several jack dempsey, goldfish, turtles, platies, crayfish? Are you aware of the risks of keeping all these species together?

yes i'm highly aware..the pbass/geos/crayfish are going into a bigger tank..going to keep the jd's in the 40g breeder tank..everyhting else is fish food lol

Oh ok, good. Well good luck, your JD are looking very nice btw. You might soon get a pair.

It appears to be clearing that rock for use as a breeding site.

A male that is ready to breed will "display" to the female by shaking its body or "vibrating", moving rocks, chasing her around, flashing, showing noticeable brighter colors, lip-locking her, etc. He can be violent to her before they end up pairing up. If the female is too weak he might kill her.

This is a Midas showing off:
