i would like to hear your opinion. I had a project on the german island sylt with porpoise whales. I assisted to meassure whales that had been stranded and where brought into a local station to make them fit for the wild again. When i went in the pool i noticed they were very interested in my behavior. For example one of them kept watching what i do with my hands. One watched my belly from close, then pushed his head against my bellybutton and then turned around on his back like he want show me, that he has that too. It was also interesting to see how fast they tried to offer me food. What do you think about that? I know hey are smart but that surprised me.

I once lost a game of tic-tac-toe to a whale but rallied to win the best of 5. Other than that my knowledge is limited to a few trips to sea world and from what they do there isn't much more than my dog can do. More first hand experience would probably lead me to change my mind but watching a dog and pony show isn't that impressive considering my dog is scared of his own farts.

Do whales really have belly buttons?

Thats quite interesting... Unfortunately for me i have zero first hand experience...

it is amazing what they can do. They try to imitate your face. Like i stick out my ongue and they do that as well. One dived and came up with a stone he wanted to show me. Its also funny to see how they want get your attention. my experience is limited to that species but im sure others have the same iq level.

zoodiver should be able to put in some first hand input too

i've only seen killerwhales and dolphins up close at seaworld when i was a kid. i feel bad for captive ones for entertainment purposes. i feel that they are smart enough to know they are in captivity and they have the capacity to have feelings. although this is all speculation from me. i've never studied or researched

they are aware of their misery....and some committed suicide. It is impossible to imagine how much misery we put on them to let them take that decission...
