Hi everyone,

I´m the new Guy her.
My Name is Jan and I´m from Germany.
As you can see my favorit fish are Polypterus.

Uwe (a member of monsterfishkeepers) told me,that i should post my Problems, which i have with my Polypterus, her on monsterfishkeepers.

Okay let´s start.
My Problem´s started about 3 weeks ago.
Everthing starts with an injury on top of one dorsal fins of my endlicheri.
It was a white point and was that big, like a 2ct piece in diameter......for sure not that big.
I thought that in about some days my endlicheri would solve this Problem on his own.....but each day the situation of my endlicheri degrade´s.
Then after a week i start to make some big water-changings but without big profit.
Than i found some strange creatures, which i identify as carp louses.
So i start to by sera argulol and after that attendance and some big water-changings,the situation of my endlicheri still degrad´s,but the carp louses were "vanished".

Than after two weeks he starts to trail off his mucouse membran and got more and more of that white points/colour in this fins....also some red points on his body.....yeah and than after some days he died:(.

I really don´t know what happend to my endlicheri and i hope that somebody can help me why he had died.

Yeah until Yesterday all my other Polypterus are all right....everybody eat, look healthy and so on.....you know.

But now i think my female congicus has changed.
She wouldn´t eat (like my endlicheri),has some blear grey/white points on her body and snap without a reason into the water.
She also lost some of her mucouse membran.

I don´t think,that that is a normal attitude for a Polypterus....and i don´t want to lose another Polypterus.....

I really really hope somebody can aid me.

Greets,
Jan

o.O Beblondie spricht Deutch?

Quarantine the poly and try adding a broad range antibiotic. Turn the temperature up, and keep her stress free. I can't think of what could be wrong, though. Es tut mir leid.

Good luck.

In a situation where the disease may have transferred from one polypterus to another, it is a bad idea to quarantine the infected one, and better to just treat the whole tank.

Water level can be lowered temporarily to save money on meds.

Other than that, some sound advice.

Hi,

Yeah my i also thinking that my endlicheri had died, because of an bacterial infection.
I think the situation about my female congicus could have an other derivation, because she still hasn´t got any injuries.

And she also had eaten her food yesterday.....that´s nice....for sure!
But she still has that peculiar blear grey/white points.
So how do i administer antibiotika to a Poly?
I never done that before.....
Is that really the best way to aid her ?

I also still have added the temperature....I´m no adecedarian.

greets,
Jan

Ps: beblondie nice translation attempt

Yes antibiotics are the best route you can go right now because the symptoms match a bacterial infection.

You administer most antibiotics for ornamental fish directly to the water. Most are powder.

Hi,

That sounds good !
But i have two questions.
First where did i get those antibiotics for ornamental fish ?
Second are where any adverse effects?

My endlicheri really was a special one...and i don´t want to lose my female congicus.
Just wacht that beautiful Pics.
Her are some older (2 month ago) pics of that two guy´s

P.endlicheri

P.congicus

Aren´t they just two beautiful Polys ???

greets,
Jan

They're allll beautiful :) Have you seen our thread in the stickies section titled 'show off your polypterus' ?

If you haven't, check it out.

As far as the meds, I know Germany has a big fish keeping scene so check your local fish stores to see if they have the medications you need.

Hi,

Yeah i still had checked all the fish stores in my region and had found sera argulol but as you all know without big provit.
But you´re right Germany has got a big fish keeping scene.....and yeah now i have found an antibiotica, but just for koi carp´s,but i think that dosen´t matter....a fish is a fish.

But i think, before i medicate,i still should give her some days.
What´s your opinion?

By the way, what´s your name cohazard?

greets,
Jan

Ps:And yeah i will check out the threads here.

You should medicate as soon as possible my friend. The more you wait, the worse the infection will spread and chances are higher you will lose another of your beauties.

I'm willing to bet the antibiotic for carp is just marketing and will work on your fish.

My name is Serg, nice meeting you! Tell your friend Uwe I said hi and that we miss him around here.
