Is there a technique?

Feed them until they belly fat once a day? Twice a day?

I read in one thread he said feed them 6 times a day in small portions.

I do a 50% water change every 2 days with prime and api stresscoat

Power feeding is a good way to bulk up your fish but it shouldn’t be done ever day. Baby Cichla can be feed twice a day but be careful not to over feed them, like any other fish with time they will grow don’t try and rush it, if they have full belly’s then they are fine. If you are feeding bloodworms then you are on a good start to convert them over to pellets. Follow the instructions at the top of this forum for converting from bloodworms to pellets. Another good way to bulk them up is by feeding cut up tilapia and shrimp. You can also convert them by stuffing pellets in the cut up fish. One last thing regarding your water changes. You should only be using prime or stress coat not both. You are over dosing the water and that can be harmful to your fish so just pick one and stick with that. Best of luck with the new pickups.

I was always under the impression that "overdosing" with prime or stress coat was completely fine and cause no harm to the fish. Does it just apply for mixing the two?Throughout my entire hobby I have always double dosed prime during water changes and have never had negative effects.

They are both doing the same thing, if you read the back of the safe bottle (the powdered version of prime) it say do not overdose. There’s no reason to double dose prime unless there is ammonia in the water. The more water conditioner you use the lower the oxygen level will be in the aquarium.

Black worms are not like live gold fish or rosey reds. Live worms like black worms or earth worms are good for most fish . small or large
Small or young fish need to eat all the time small meals. Adult fish can eat a large meal that my last a few days or longer.
you need to get them to eat freeze dried krill and plankton ,pellits small Pease's of shrimp or fish . never feed your bass any kind of carp gold fish or roasy reds
I like wolfmans quote he said it better than me.

I would bump the temp higher 88/89 degrees if you want to feed more frequently lots of aeration or surface agitation, also if the bass are readily taking blood worms you can soak pellets, tilapia, shrimp etc in blood worm juices then stick or smash the blood worms into the food you want them to take they will eat it. The sticky up too has worked flawlessly for me making pellet powder and mixing with blood worms. They need to be trained they are babies and don’t know what your throwing in there is food. Some bass can be very stubborn to accept different foods but most will readily take whatever you put in the tank once they are taught
