What a mistake I made!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was just thinking about bleach. Was concerned for corrosion, but obviously it won't be a concern working it quickly. One the impeller shaft or whatever. Can remember what metal is in there.
Corrosion shouldn't be a concern since you should be significantly diluting the bleach, not using it at full concentration.

Update.... first fx5 was taken apart last night. I took about an hour on it. The initial smell almost knocked me over. The smell quickly dissipated with just water. The prefilter (foam filter on side of baskets) was discarded immediately (ordering new) the center ceramic bio media was cleaned via H2O2 and very hot basically boiling water then rinsed thoroughly. The carbon and pad on top basket discarded. Main basket was soaked in AC vinegar for 30min and flushed thlroughly. Everything actually looks very good! 2nd one will be completed the same way.
All the seals look good. I am not sure if I will replace impellers. I will give them a test run first.
I think my bio balls in sump will be cleaned cleaned in the same manner unless they are like falling apart.
The FX5 baskets I will run ceramic media in second baskets. 1st and 3rd will probably run good old pads with 3rd being close to polishing. I will later add carbon (deep blue) in one and chemipure in the other's 1st stage with a medium blue pad on top. 3rd will stay with pads. I am sure I could have explained that a lot easier :)

Sump will just be a nice blue/white pad and bio balls.
