What a shame

those are not healthy africans... you can see the fish in the top left corners fins are shredded. the other fish also look in poor health. i too let algae grow and the tank looks questionably clean, but the fish tell the story better then anything else.

tank water looks to be low, not usually a good sign.
well, if you don't agree with their treatment of the fish the only thing to do is tell them you won't patronize an establishment that mistreats animals and leave.
if enough people do that they'll either get rid of it or perform better maintenance.

I don't see anything particularly wrong just from that one picture.

They're africans. A lot of people overstock them to keep agression down. And none of the fish looks really crowded or too big for the tank.

It looks like there is a good bit of algae on the glass.....But that's just aesthetics. Until you test their water parameters, you can't say that anything is really wrong. Heck.....I let algae grow on my decorations and back wall of my aquariums. It scrubs nitrates, and it's actually good for the water parameters. Plus, it give the fish something to nibble on. Am I a bad fishkeeper for allowing algae to grow??? I certainly think not.

I've seen a lot worse. And to me, it looks like there may be nothing wrong here. There could be.....but from that picture, there is no real evidence of poor fishkeeping.

This happens every time someone posts something like this. People love being dramatic. Its a side shot of a crowded african tank with an algae problem...OH THE HUMANITY! LETS THROW ROCKS AT THEIR FACE!!!

My tank is heavily overstock with African too. But I run 4 major filter in it. The Ph is fine and the nitrate is low. And my cichlids are doing just fine. So in the picture doesn't prove anything but that one fish floating at the top doesn't look so good

Actually I keep my tank water lower then the rim to add in as much oxygen as needed because I over stock my tank too.

I do the same in my growout... that and when I fill it to the rim the long sides bow out 1/4", i don't want the thing to blowout.

The pic could be deceivingly bad, when you look down the long side of my 7' tank it looks like crap, all green and gross, but from the front it looks crystal clear.
Yes, that one fish does look a little sickly with it's fins collapsed and a bit torn.

They may be focused more on their business than their tank (which, they really shouldn't have one if they can't maintain it themselves).
I would offer services to do maintenance for them (for $ or a discount on product LOL) or refer them to a reputable company you know that does on-location maintenance.

Yea my local "Mandarin" Restraunt has HUGE tanks in every room atleast 800 gallon each and they have 5 of them plus a pond at the front. They are allways spotless. Fish are allways healthy. Tons of awsome koi in all the tanks
