damn.... wonder how long it took to hit that size.... :(

not that long, our member Aquafan2001 grew a few out to 20-30" range and one of our members Alfon76 has a few that are 30-40" range I believe, kept together, took a few years to reach that size probably tasty one too :) I heard arapaimas are great sashimi Some of these fish are probably economical and ecologically viable for harvest and aquacultured for food! I got some monsters in my freezer care to take one home for the frying pan?

 :banhim:

Afros are commercially farmed in some parts of Africa. They are also extensively wild caught for food. It wasn't a waste in any way unless no one ate it :)

My thoughts exactly, Jason. Heterotis niloticus is so widespread in Africa that fishbase.org lists it as a "potential pest" species in many introduced areas:

Heterotis niloticus

Of course, I certainly don't consider my two Afros to be pests. :)

AFROS!!!!!!!!!! hahahahah. is that some funny way of putting african and aro together. hahahah. at first i thought it was a mistake but then i realized more than one of you is callin them afros! hahaha

Besides, "Afro" sounds much cooler than "African bony tongue," which unfortunately sounds like some sort of strange tribal sex ritual. ;)

I may be wrong but I think I coined the term "Afro" over on the old Pfish.
