I went to another LFS that I hardly go to since the new owners took over and they hardly get any new fish and the service sucks. They had a tank of pikes and half looked like lucius and half looked different, so I got one. Too bad I paid way more yesterday for another lucius when this place had some for $4. I hope it's not just another lucius that hasn't gone through a change yet. The guy told me they were only feeding on live :shakehead Anyway, here's the pix...

johanna "blackline"?
I thought the nickname for lepidota was blackline?

I'm going to move the rummynose out of the 10g and put this one in there. I don't want too many pikes in the same tank even though they are getting along fine. Besides, a couple of the fish in the 75 could possibly make it a meal and I need to get it fattened up.

The only thing that I can tell from those pics, and at that size, is that you have two different species.

Man, why keep buying all these little pikes when I have a monster pike you could buy:naughty:

:D I'm addicted to buying little fish, I guess and pikes are my new addiction. I'm hoping to maybe grow some up a little and sell or trade them to get a tapajos or something. I wouldn't have bought the one from Aqua Imports if I would have known it was another lucius...it looked different at the store. The two lucius actually swim together a bit. I have enough little fish at this point to grow out...nothing more for me except the larger polys I'm going to order.

ME ============= :screwy:

The smaller one looks like a young Venezulan ?
don't they usually have a black band almost at the tip of the tail?

That's one of the cheap Columbian pikes that come in mixed, most likely geayi. Not Lucius because it doesn't have the lepidota spot behind the gill cover. Ken

OK, thanks. I'll post some pix once it gets a little bigger to more easily tell which Columbian species.
